Feeling trapped? How to create a new mindset

The difference is subtle, but we know that people with high resilience will often say, “I'll be at my best despite things being hard”, while people who have lower resilience will say, “I'll be at my best when things go my way.”

If the script we run in our head is, "I'll be at my best - or I'll be happy, or I'll have a great life - despite things being hard", we'll put more effort into finding the good things in life rather than waiting for things to be perfect or easy. Perfect or easy may never eventuate.

With still so much uncertainty to navigate and things as they are in the world, shifting our mind to a more positive frame might at times feel impossible – only we know that it’s not. How? Because the human brain, once thought to be ‘fixed’ in our mid-20s, is changeable, making change possible.

In this episode of ABC Nightlife, Philip Clark speaks to our Managing Director, Jono Nicholas, about how to recognise when the stories that you have about yourself and the world are no longer serving you, and how to go about changing them.
