The 36 Questions to Create Connection

This activity is designed to help us move beyond small talk and build a deeper sense of connection, by learning about each other in a safe way that respects differences and individual stories.

This is beneficial because social connection is an important aspect of wellbeing, and disclosure and sharing are important to building trust.

The following questions are based on the groundbreaking work of psychologists Elaine and Arthur Aron, whose research focuses on reliable, repeatable ways to overcome obstacles to closeness. They found that sharing personal information in a balanced and structured way could bring people together and increase feelings of connectedness.

This activity takes 45 minutes and is designed to be completed with a partner.
